Destroyers serve a number of roles in the game. They can be used to seek out enemy ships for the big guns on their team to target, to launch torpedo salvos at enemy ships, and provide additional anti-aircraft cover for friendly vessels.

Nimble and extremely agile, destroyers are capable of increasing their speed and stopping quicker than any other class. Being long and narrow, they turn rather slowly. Despite their modest size, their turning diameters at top speed can easily compete with those of giant battleships.

Given destroyers’ small draught characteristics, they can easily pass shoals, which almost none of the other classes are capable of.

Benefits Edit

  • Torpedoes: If successfully deployed, torpedoes can sink any class of warship.
  • High mobility: Exceptional maneuverability allows destroyers to keep out of reach and avoid enemy attacks while sneaking up on enemy ships.
  • Smoke screen: A versatile tool, smoke screens can be deployed to conceal allied movement, confuse enemy ships and avoid enemy fire.

Tips Edit

  • The power of destroyers is in their speed and maneuverability, as well as high rate of fire. Their swiftness compensates for the disadvantage of light armor. Utilize this to your full advantage.
  • Destroyers are a fast and lethal weapon in battles against hulking battleships.
  • Closing distances is a risky choice for a destroyer but it can really pay off as the precision of torpedo attacks increases significantly as you close the gap between you and your target.
  • Take advantage of a map’s landscape, as islands and narrow straights will compromise the maneuverability of larger ships and give you the opportunity to ambush.
  • Make sure your Commanders are trained in the “Situation Awareness” skill; it'll let you know when you’ve been detected by enemy forces and be an invaluable tool when surprising enemy ships.
  • Don’t spend too much time in the Binocular view—it’ll compromise your ability to maneuver and you may miss the perfect torpedo opportunity.

By country Edit

Destroyers vary among the nationalities; American destroyers feature capable, rapid-firing guns, while Japanese destroyers are harder to detect and come equipped with more advanced torpedoes.
